Challenge

As India's leading provider of data analytics, IT services, and business operations for the healthcare industry, Carelon supports organizations worldwide with next-generation services. However, managing expense reports for their 17,000 employees was straining their existing ERP module and home-grown systems, impacting their ability to operate efficiently across global markets.

With reimbursements taking up to 30 days and limited insight into company spending, Carelon knew they needed advanced support that could also scale with business growth. As a result, their search focused on solutions that could streamline workflows and integrate with existing tools, all while meeting the stringent compliance standards required in healthcare operations.

Emburse solution

With Emburse's T&E platform in place, Carelon implemented a new pre-approval system to cut expense processing time from 30 to 10 days. Employees also quickly adapted to the platform which led to better travel planning: Advance bookings increased from 45% to 85% and pre-approval compliance improved by 70%.

To accomplish this, the new system's automated workflows routed travel requests to appropriate approvers based on predefined rules, requiring bookings 14 to 21 days in advance. Taking a preemptive approach cut short-notice reservations by half and generated cost savings of 5-10% on both domestic and international airfares.

Carelon's finance team now sees exactly where money is being spent, whether it's departmental travel or company events. Having data organized by function and business tower has made budget planning more precise and cost management more effective.
